18-Year-Old Oil Rig Apprentice Goes Viral for Sharing Her Day-to-Day Life in the Middle of the Ocean – FAIL Blog

Have you ever seen an offshore oil rig? They are absolutely enormous and created to withstand hurricanes in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight. It’s just as terrifying as it is beautiful. The nights are an all consuming darkness and the days are beautiful horizons and sea for miles. The sun rise and sets in the ocean. Oil rig roughnecks know that it is a once in a lifetime occupation that will be an experience you can get nowhere else. 

 

18-year-old Thea Uglum Håland from Norway is an apprentice on an offshore oil rig and shares her day-to-day activities on her TikTok. She is apprenticing as a material coordinator for a year and a half until she can take it on herself full time. The job requires her to be on the oil rig working non stop for 14 days, and then she gets a little over three weeks off in between jobs. When. it comes to oil rig jobs, you would imagine the videos to always seem dangerous and scary, but Håland shares a side of the career that most people don’t see.

When you think of oil rig jobs you think or roaring oceans, hardhats, and scary heights dangling above an unforgiving sea. Which is visible in Håland’s videos—it’s unavoidable when that is the environment surrounding you. But Håland also shares the off hours of her job, like laundry day, sorting through mail, or getting her gear on—and is able to show that working on an oil rig isn’t all fighting for your safety.
